Honey, I froze the kids!

Dear Friends,

THIS WEEK’S PODCAST:

(01:00) Why the Irish voted down two “progressive” amendments to the constitution
(05:20) Was Biden’s State of the Union address mostly a campaign speech?
(20:50) Honey, I froze the kids!
(38:50) A look back as we mark the fourth anniversary of COVID
(45:00) Obamacare opponents continue efforts to repeal key components
(55:30) Urban beekeeping – past and present, with Kathy Byrnes Fallon

Dr. Charles Goldman.

Regarding our conversation at the 20:50 mark, Charles says: In light of the Alabama Supreme Court decision regarding frozen embryos as “extra-uterine children,” commentators at publications such as the Washington Examiner, Epoch Times, and National Review rushed to flatly state that “life begins at conception.”

In the recent Alabama Supreme Court endorsement of fetal personhood, we were treated to a treatise on the topic based on those well-known scientific tomes: the Old and New testaments. Even though Republicans are quickly abandoning efforts to ban in vitro fertilization (IVF) in an election year, undoubtedly they’ll be back at their misogynistic program once they’re past this November’s voting. Let’s take a look at what fetal personhood would look like when it’s revisited in the near future.

We look forward to your feedback. We’d also like to hear from you regarding our perspective on Biden’s State of the Union address, which we peg as his first campaign speech leading up to the 2024 general election. We also discuss Sen. Katie Britt’s rebuttal — a perplexing rant that came off more as an audition for a sit-com about the world’s scariest mom than a serious political speech.

Charles and I also discuss the fourth anniversary of the World Health Organization declaring COVID a global pandemic. We also tap Charles’ medical expertise on Republican efforts to peel away key provisions of Obamacare, even though the targeted services are immensely popular with most Americans.

Kathy and I wrap up the program with a look at urban beekeeping’s history. This discussion comes in the wake of my first sting of the year and, on the bright side, a hive check that finds one of our colonies extremely vibrant. Yay bees!

Thanks for reading, listening, and sharing your impressions.
