A Philosophy Super Bowl?

Dear Friends,

HERE’S THIS WEEK’S PODCAST.

Before you listen to the podcast, take a sec and register to watch this important documentary premiering Thursday, June 23, at 6:00 pm CST.

Jon Bowermaster

Dear President Biden” is produced by Jon Bowermaster. It examines national energy policy and CO2 pipelines. Jessica Wiskus, an Iowa landowner in the path of a CO2 pipeline, was interviewed for the film and participates in the panel discussion immediately following.

I talk with Jessica at the 17:30-mark of the program. Literally thousands of Midwesterners are threatened with having their land condemned for a privately-owned pipeline. Jessica is among the hundreds and hundreds speaking out.

Also on this week’s program, at the 2-minute mark … what’s not to like about trains? Well, apparently quite a bit if you live in a community where one big railroad company is proposing a major expansion of train traffic. Joining me to discuss that is the mayor of Bettendorf, Iowa, Bob Gallagher.

My first reaction was, “More trains equals less pollution and highway-safety concerns. Good thing, right?” After talking with Bob, well, let’s just say there are a bunch of other concerns to consider before jumping to a conclusion.

At the 37:30-mark, Mark Clipsham joins me to present a novel idea: A Philosophy Super Bowl! Americans love competition, so let’s ramp it up a level. Let’s get a real brainiac smack-down going.

I see the stunning headline: “Elkhorn Epistemologists stump Manning Metaphysicians on question of why bad things happen to good people.”

Is Mark serious? Well, you decide. What he and I are dead serious about is how we move beyond the endless growth paradigm. Slowly? Quickly? Not at all, since things are just fine the way they are? (Uh huh.) I’ll give you one guess as to where Mark and I fall.

Finally, Kathy Byrnes joins me to discuss peas. Ok, that sounds even more boring than a Philosophy Super Bowl. But really, what do you know about peas? Are you uncomfortable around pods and afraid to learn more? Maybe Kathy’s off-base to call peas “the perfect produce,” but … well, you’ll just to have to listen and see if you agree or disagree.

Thanks for reading, listening, and giving a darn! – Ed
