The Winter Soup Pot

Dear Friends,

It’s Christmas, so I get to share nice things people have said about my work, right? I’m sincerely grateful for the kind, encouraging remarks I received during the Save America March. You helped keep me going, and assured me of the undertaking’s importance.

Here’s a selection of comments from around the country:

Ed, Kathy, and Miriam I miss you all so much, I’ve been in Missouri three years and reading this was delightful. – Brenda, Missouri

You could write for comedy, as a side gig. – Gretchen, Iowa

This journey will make a great book when you’re done and recovered. We need, we desperately crave, positive interactions with our fellow homo sapiens. — Yvonne, New Mexico

Amazing accomplishment! And amazing that you got so much support and so little grief from people. Gives hope for the future. – Tom, New Hampshire

Beautiful writing. I especially appreciate the landscape photo, landscape and people descriptions, and the accounts of interactions with the people and land. – Osh, Michigan

Thanks for bringing us along on this important journey. – Judy, Iowa

This is such a beautiful account of your day that I just had to write. Keep up the walk! – David, New Jersey

I have an email mailing list of some 120 friends and contacts from over many years. Yesterday, I shared the words you sent me about the 17th day of your Walk. I got a response from a neighbor who just said, “Made my day”! – Lyn, Connecticut

Thanks so much for being you on the planet–and here–right now. – Annie, Iowa

Love to read your stories! – Roy and Monica, Maryland

Again, I am deeply grateful that so many of you continue to support and value my work. I couldn’t do it without you — and I certainly couldn’t do it without my small but mighty team, including my wife, Kathy.

Speaking of Kathy, here’s the cast-iron soup pot she inherited from her Aunt Rose. It was made in the 1950s and still works perfectly! Kathy shares its story in the fourth segment of this week’s program, along with reading a chapter titled “The Winter Soup Pot” from a beloved old cookbook.

HERE’S THIS WEEK’S PODCAST, WITH CHARLES, KATHY, AND ED:

1. AI is making us dumber
2. SNAP subsidizes Walmart, Amazon, and other big corporations that pay low wages
3. Ultra-processed foods are worse than bad
4. The Winter Soup Pot

I hope you have a chance to listen. As always, feedback (pro and con) welcome. Wishing you a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks for reading, listening, and being involved.
