SCOTUS ruling helps Trump be dictator beyond Day One

Dear Friends,

THIS WEEK’S PODCAST:

(04:05) SCOTUS ruling helps Trump be dictator beyond Day One;
(20:44) Painting Stonehenge and other questionable climate actions;
(37:40) Biden’s troubles from debate fallout continue;
(54:42) Gluten or glyphosate – what’s got your gut in a knot?, with Kathy Byrnes.

Charles Goldman and I dig into recent rulings by the US Supreme Court. Of all the Court’s disturbing decisions, most troubling is the so-called “Chevron” case.

The long and short of it is the Chevron ruling gives a future president way more power than he currently has.

How much power? Well, is it a stretch to suggest that the ruling confers the power of an autocrat? Charles and I don’t think that’s an overstatement.

We also discuss the climate activists who spray-painted Stonehenge a lovely shade of orange. After a bit of haggling over whether orange was the right color choice, Charles and I wrestle with the question of how far is going too far in the fight to save us from the worsening climate crisis.

On a related note, sort of, Charles confesses that he thinks Stonehenge might have been built with the assistance of aliens. While it’s nice to envision humans and aliens working side by side in peace, I’m more inclined to think the guy in this video offers a better example of how Stonehenge was built.

(Note: I have no idea why the video has to refer to the guy’s level of melanin. But I do love that his name is Wally and that he’s from the Midwest.)

Charles and I also talk about the continued impact of Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance. I’m still of the belief that Biden will not be the eventual nominee. Charles isn’t so sure, though he asks a good question: If Biden was sick going into the debate, why didn’t he say so at the very start of the debate?

Finally, Kathy and I discuss the wild increase in gluten intolerance. Is it connected to the use of glyphosate on wheat and other crops? The jury is still out on that, but concern about the dangers of glyphosate are more and more well-founded.

Thanks for reading, listening, and doing your part for a better world.
