Dear Friends,
LISTEN TO THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM HERE
Congratulations to Iowa Auditor Rob Sand! After recounts in Warren and Des Moines counties today, Rob was declared the winner. (Congrats also to Rob for bagging a nine-point buck today.)
Rob’s victory is one of the few bright spots for Iowa Democrats this week. Incumbents Cindy Axne, Tom Miller, and Mike Fitzgerald all lost. Challengers to Governor Reynolds and Senator Grassley got their clocks cleaned. Democrats lost seats in both the Iowa House and Senate.
Iowa is now redder than Mississippi and Alabama. In fact, among states with four or more congressional districts, Iowa is tied for first in redness with Utah, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
Let that sink in: IOWA IS REDDER THAN ALABAMA! I talk about this on this week’s program and about the midterm elections nationally. In most places, things didn’t go as badly for Democrats as they did in Iowa.
I’ll have a lot more to say about this going forward, but for now, let me just throw this out there: Iowa Democratic Party power brokers would do well to understand why Rob won in 2018 (becoming the first Democratic Auditor since 1939!) and why he won again this year when every other statewide or congressional Democrat lost.
Also this week we talk with Sam Myers, director of the Planetary Health Alliance. Sam’s the principal research scientist at Harvard’s Department of Environmental Health. We discuss his film, The Promise of Planetary Health, which you gotta watch. It’s ten minutes that will, hopefully, inspire you to take action on behalf of our planet.
Also this week, Dr. Maureen McCue with Physicians for Social Responsibility joins me to discuss the negative impacts of carbon dioxide pipelines on human health. It’s a long list, unfortunately. State regulators considering whether to grant permits to companies that want to build these pipelines should listen to Maureen and other physicians.

Thanks for reading, listening, and supporting! — Ed Fallon
