Conversations with Randy Evans and Kathy Byrnes

Dear Friends,

Randy Evans joins me for the first half of this week’s program. Randy’s the head of the Iowa Freedom of Information Council and writes a regular column called Stray Thoughts. I first got to know Randy when he was the editorial page editor of the Des Moines Register.

Here are the two segments with Randy:

1. Liberty for a drug lord, death for mere suspects.

2. Remembering the Vietnam-era bombing of the Quaker Meeting House in Des Moines.

For the second half of the program, my wife Kathy Byrnes and I discuss a recent New York Times piece on challenges facing public education and the exponential rise in ADHD, autism, and other diagnoses. Kathy and I also discuss food security, and what a handful of state lawmakers said about the issue at the recent Iowa Farmers Union convention.

Here are the two segments with Kathy:

3. Are schools failing our kids?

4. Iowa lawmakers speak on food security.

That’s all I’ve got for this week, folks. Merry Christmas, and give thanks that the days will soon be growing longer.

Thanks for reading, listening, and taking action.
